Escape Mechanism
Escape Mechanism flaunts its sampling self with the admission that their debut is "fifty-two minutes and forty-five seconds of absolutely nothing new." Modeling Oswaldian collage techniques, the Minneapolis group blends clips from radio, television and several different sources of media. Sometimes dancey but usually creepy, familiar sounds float in and out of the mix, and EM (is) never stale. Just when equilibrium seems attained, new elements are introduced, reforming the track's skeleton and occasionally changing its species. Even Mr. Rogers makes an appearance, telling small children that they are small enough to fit down a bathroom drain. Engaging to the last drop.
